I‘ve helped graduate students complete their final theses, publishing houses with reader’s reports, and have been published in independent journals and edited volumes.

Over the past 23 years, I've developed my skills in written communications, systems design, and relational leadership through launching creative writing communities and from working in faith communities and higher education.

While I have experience with traditional publishing houses, I take the perspective of the reader to offer suggestions that help you deliver your best work!

I take a goal/destination-oriented approach to evaluating your non-fiction outline or manuscript and suggesting developmental/structural edits.

This helps you as the writer create a learning experience through your book that helps your readers clarify their needs and priorities, and foster mastery or growth in a given topic. The emphasis is on the reader and what they need to make progress in their life.

Engaging a Developmental or Structural Editor

When can I help?

After completing your first manuscript draft: I provide a fresh perspective to help you identify areas that need improvement in terms of organization, pacing, and overall structure.
After receiving feedback from beta readers: I help you address any concerns raised by beta readers, and offer guidance on refining your manuscript based on their feedback.
Before submitting to literary agents or publishers: I help make your outline or manuscript more compelling and “ready to sell” when you reach out out to agents or publisher.
When you’re unsure about your manuscript’s direction: If you find yourself questioning the flow, coherence, or effectiveness of your work, either during the outlining or editing phase, I provide insights and suggestions to help you gain clarity and get “unstuck.”

Outline Assessment

I provide a short report (1-2k words, double-spaced) offering general feedback about your work-in-progress, including positive aspects of the idea, the elements that require attention, comments on structure, style, and recommendations for next steps or research avenues.

One week turn-around

Manuscript Assessment

I provide a report (2-3k words, double-spaced) offering detailed notes about the big-picture elements of your work-in-progress, including structure, theme, style, and more, as well as chapter notes as necessary.

Three weeks turn-around
